The God who Cares about Hairs

6  Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.  7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.  (Luke 12:6-7)

Teachers are amazing! I was so impressed with something one of our FCS teachers was doing on the first day of school. In the middle of all the hustle and bustle that first morning, she was crouching down and noticing her students in such personal ways. She was looking them in the eyes, speaking their names, and complimenting them on their colorful new backpacks.

With such simple acts, she reminded me of profound truths about our personal God. Though the Lord is “high and lifted up,” He also is with us and knows us intimately! In fact, as I’ve been preparing to preach on Luke 12 at Forcey Bible Church this Sunday, I’ve been reminded that God even knows the number of hairs on my head! Why would God care about such a frivolous detail? Because He wants us to understand that we are intimately known and loved! He knows everything about us and invites us to trust Him to take care of us! Therefore, because we are so precious to God, He can tell us, “Do not be afraid” (Luke 12:4). When an all-powerful God whispers His love so personally into our ear, what can there be to fear?

I pray for our FCS families this weekend – may you know that God is big, but also that He is close and kind. He sees, He cares, He loves, and He provides – just like some good teachers I know!
