The Geocache Challenge: A Forcey Family Summer Adventure

What is Geocaching?

It’s like a “treasure hunt” right in your local community.  People put a few trinkets and a logbook into a container and hide it somewhere – sometimes at a special, scenic, or historic location, or sometimes just in a fun hiding spot.  Using the app, you can see a map that shows the general location of all the geocaches in your region.  you select one to find and follow your GPS through the app until you arrive at the coordinates.  Then you are usually within 20 or 30 feet of the hidden container.  When you find it, you can put your name into the logbook, take a trinket from the container, and leave a treasure of your own for someone else to enjoy.

How are we doing it?

Our team has hidden 8 geocaches locally that are named on the list provided.  When you find one, there will be a small notebook inside.  On the inside of the back cover of the notebook will be the numbers of a Proverb.  If there’s not a notebook, look for a number written onto the box itself.  Write the number and words of that Proverb on the list provided.  Show the list to someone in the church office for a prize:

Find at least 3 = small prize / Find all 8 = small and large prize

How do I start?

Print out or download the list of geocache locations: The Geocache Challenge

Download the “Geocaching” App.  Open the “Map” on the App and center the map on our area.  The green circles are all Geocaches that you can find.  Again, the 8 that we have hidden are named on the list below, so pick one of those and go find it!

*Note: People spend anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour looking for a geocache – Do NOT attempt in heat without water!
