DISCIPLING AND EMPOWERING STUDENTS TO REACH THEIR WORLD WITH THE GOSPEL

In going on Mission Possible, students are making a choice to not only serve in ministry this summer, but also to invest in their futures through intensive training as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Here are some frequently asked questions.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Any high school student (finished 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades in June 2019) who is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, attends church at Forcey, and wants to grow as a follower of Jesus Christ is encouraged to apply!

BIG CHANGES FOR 2019?

Starting in 2019, students may apply for any individual weeks of summer ministry. Each week of ministry stands alone, with the same team leader leading each week. This way, many more students can be involved than in the past, when students had to commit for the entire summer. Our hope is that some students will choose to participate in many of the weeks, while other students might choose one week.

WHO IS LEADING THE TRIPS?

Our Pastoral Intern. AJ Itzel, will lead Mission Possible 2019. In addition to AJ, each week will include added leadership contributions from various well-known and trusted men and women leaders at Forcey. The program is overseen by Pastor Mike Maslin and a committee, who will ensure each week is well-led.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

We are trusting God to raise some general program funds through a regular church campaign in May and car wash fundraisers.

Most weeks of local ministry (Training Week, 1:27 Week, Local Kids Club, and Forcey Day Camp) will have very minimal costs associated with them ($10-$40 per week, depending). However, the other weeks spent away from home (Brooklyn, Ocean City, and Reach Global) will have higher costs (ranging from around $100-$400, depending).

We believe, biblically, that God’s people will not lack supply for the work to which God has called them, for His resources are abundant (Psalm 50:9-15). Students will both work hard and learn to trust God to supply personal funds where needed. For higher-cost weeks, we will train students to raise money through hard work and personal fundraising letters. We are not giving out exact dollar amounts for each week yet so that cost is not a prime determiner of calling. Raising funds will be an exciting exercise of faith, and we’ll be in it together!

WHAT ABOUT CROSS-CULTURAL TRIPS?

There are no Mission Possible cross-cultural, international trips this summer. Students will become eligible for possible future cross-cultural trips by completing at least one evangelism, one service, and one kids ministry week of ministry. The types of ministry are indicated on the list below.

WHAT ARE THE WEEKS AND DESTINATIONS?

Students may apply for any of the following weeks of ministry this summer. For eligibility for possible future cross-cultural trips, students must have completed at least one evangelism, one kids ministry, and one service week.

  • Training Week (June 17 – 21). Required training sessions (evangelism, health & safety seminar, apologetics, relational ministry, and team building) will be offered periodically throughout Training Week. Any student who applies for any week should be generally available during Training Week. An exact schedule will be determined later.
  • SERVICE: 1:27 Service Week (June 24 – 28). In this week of local service projects, based on James’ description of “pure and faultless religion before God” in James 1:27, we will serve a variety of local ministries and community service organizations such Laurel Pregnancy Center, MANNA, Central Union , homeless ministry (D.C.); Safe Families, and other community service projects.
  • EVANGELISM: Local Kids Clubs & Sketchboard Training (July 1 – 5). OAC Missionary and longtime Mission Possible leader Zane Dempsie will come to Silver Spring to equip us in the basics of open-air ministry. We will also do evangelistic Kids Clubs in Baltimore, MD and adult open-air ministry in Silver Spring, MD on Friday night.
  • KIDS MINISTRY: Brooklyn, NY (July 6 – July 12). We will serve primarily Mexican & Chinese immigrant populations with Grace Baptist Church’s summer camp in Sunset Park (Brooklyn, NY), along with exposure to and service in a variety of urban ministries. We will work with Rob & Jeannie Sundholm of SCORE International Ministries.
  • EVANGELISM: Ocean City, MD Boardwalk Evangelism (July 15 – 19). Longtime Forcey missionary Paul Adams will help lead us in Ocean City, MD for Boardwalk Evangelism featuring skits, gospel illustrations, sketchboard evangelism messages, and one-on-one evangelistic conversations. This week will also include lots of debrief and training for personal evangelism conversations.
  • KIDS MINISTRY: Forcey Day Camp (July 22 – 26). We will partner with our awesome Forcey Day Camp ministry to serve volunteer needs around camp and assist giving Bible lessons to the campers.
  • SERVICE: Reach Global (Aug 18 – 23). We will serve in Morehead City, North Carolina with Reach Global for Hurricane Florence disaster relief projects. Hurricane Florence decimated parts of this region in North Carolina in September 2018.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Each student should ask their parents about their summer availability, ask God for guidance, fill out this general application, and turn it in to AJ. This is to ensure eligibility for any of the weeks in which you apply, pending an interview.

Please return a completed application to AJ Itzel:
